PREKESE GHANAMEDIA FIELDWORK- YAW DWENE ADOWA AND NWOMKRO

ADOWA AND NWOMKRO ARE TRADITIONAL MUSIC MAKING GROUPS MOSTLY FOUND IN THE AKAN SPEAKING COMMUNITIES AND AREAS IN GHANA.
WITH INSTRUMENTAL RESOURCES ALMOST SIMILAR, THERE IS STILL A SLIGHT DIFFERENCES IN THE WAY THE MUSIC IS PRESENTED.  THE FEATURED GROUP, YAW DWENE ADOWA AND NWONKRO GROUP COMBINES THE TWO BECAUSE THEY ARE A SEMI PROFESSIONAL GROUP THAT PERFORMS FOR EVENTS IN THE COMMUNITY.
WITH VOCALS MOSTLY DONE BY WOMEN, THIS IS A SORT OF EMPOWERMENT FOR THE RURAL GHANAIAN WOMAN WHOSE PARTICIPATION GIVES HER THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE COMMENTARIES ON TOPICAL ISSUES IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. THEY PRAISE, CHALLENGE, CONSOLE AND ENTERTAIN AND OF COURSE DOCUMENT THE HISTORY OF THE PEOPLE ESPECIALLY WOMEN.
ENJOY OUR FIELDWORK CAPTURED DURING THE FUNERAL RITES OF A PROMINENT CHIEF OF THE ASANTE KING.
